Vietnamese Translation Service Facilitates Danish Queen's Visit to Vietnam

On November 2, 2009, Vietnam and Denmark signed an agreement on cultural cooperation for the period extending from 2009-2014 during Queen Margrethe II's visit to Vietnam from Denmark. The agreement will facilitate artistic and cultural cooperation and exchanges between the two countries during the period, and will include cultural exchanges between people and organizations involved in the arts.

Vietnam's Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and his Danish counterpart were signatories to the agreement. In recent years, Vietnam has benefited greatly from cultural support funds and projects financed by Denmark.

Denmark is currently funding seven projects in Vietnam which focus on promoting children's literature and improving management of the performing arts. In addition, Denmark is considering increasing financial assistance to promote Vietnam in Denmark and to promote the Halong Bay as one of the world's natural wonders and for Thang Long Imperial Citadel to become a world cultural heritage site.

The Danish government has worked with Vietnamese translation services and interpreters to organise various cultural activities throughout the ten-day visit of the Danish Queen Margrethe II.

Among the many activities, the Hanoi Writer's Society and other Writers' guilds held an awards ceremony for authors of Vietnamese children's books published between 2008 and 2009. Other activities included a street fair, a Danish-Vietnamese rock festival, numerous family events and a spectacular fireworks show.

Vietnamese translators also helped to launched a writing competition for children with the theme of "Dialogue with nature" and kicked off an art exhibition by Vietnamese and Danish painters.
